Lumberjack Birthday Party

Two Birthday Orders

One birthday order for Animal Science professors, and one for a 21st.  All went well except for two things: (1) the black acted funny on the livestock cookies and (2) I tried my best to get "Happy Birthday Kara" onto what WERE beautiful plaque cookies, only to discover that my transfer template method was not working.  I have used this method before with excellent results, but those were characters, not text.  While no solution was found for this order, I have asked John to make me a KopyKake to prevent future order woes.  If he succeeds I will have to name it something cute...KopyFake maybe? Meh. Knowing him, I have 6 months to come up with a name ;)

After a little trial and error I came to a very important conclusion.  The heat sealing machine is the best $50 I have ever spent, and greatly improved my attitude towards bagging cookies.

Gift Baskets!

Okay, so.......I have a confession.  I have been off of work for two weeks doing really great holiday things, spending as much time as I can with the horses, and filling a few orders here and there.  And, well, "update blog" has yet to be crossed off of the list.  So, time permitting, I am about to play catch-up on what should probably be 5 posts.  I plan to employ the "long story short" philosophy for all of these, and go for more of a brief photo journal.  I will also promise here and now, that I will try to do a better job of writing these as I go from now on (with the hope that there will be more orders in the future), so this can serve as both story-telling fun, and a cookie portfolio.

Here we go, catch-up blog numero uno.....On December 17th, we had our annual Department of Animal Science Christmas Luncheon.  My peeps in the accounting office, who have been SOOO supportive of my new hobby asked me if I could make a basket or two for door prizes.  You know what my answer was, so here is what I came up with:

Farm Animals!

Animals are my life, at home and at work.  So, it is only natural that I go on a hunt for animal themed cookie cutters.  Sadly, livestock-shaped cutters that are both cute and recognizable are hard to come by.  Enter eBay.  After rigorously searching the internet, I found a set of Wilton farm animals cutters, circa 1988 - and I bought them.  This covers the cow, pig, lamb, and foul - but no horse.  I am still working on finding that last one.  Anywho, let the adventure begin.

 I included my set-up because those who know me give me a hard time for being too organized.  I can tell you that this is an activity where organization definitely pays off.  Back to the cookies.  I actually have a picture of the start of the process this time.
